About Anna
Anna Mar is a Polish-Canadian abstract artist based in Sooke, British Columbia. Educated in the UK, she brings a global perspective to her art, blending her European roots with the raw inspiration of the West Coast landscape.
Anna’s creative foundation began at the University of the Arts London, where she earned a degree in Digital Media Design. Her early career in graphic design and art direction taught her the importance of composition and visual storytelling—skills that now deeply inform her art practice.
After years in the digital world, Anna moved to the physical canvas, finding that abstract art offered a more personal way to express herself. Her current work is an evolution toward mixed media and textured layers, where she explores the "essence" of nature through a hands-on, intuitive process.
When she isn't at her art studio, she runs a creative design practice, bridging her background in digital media with her artistic vision to provide branding and design services for fellow artists and businesses.
Anna is an active member of a non-profit, artist-run collective and gallery, where she contributes to the local community. Her work is an invitation to pause and discover a personal connection—one that is felt rather than seen.
Artist Statement
As an artist, I immerse myself in the beauty and power of nature, letting its presence guide me on a path of self-discovery. My work explores the subtle ways the natural world moves through our lives, revealing what often goes unnoticed.
The creative process is, for me, an invitation into the unknown. Layers of questions and answers unfold as I work, leading me to places that feel both unreachable and essential. My paintings are a translation of what words cannot capture — meanings transforming into energy, invisible yet palpable, drawing viewers in and inviting reflection.
My practice is about exploration, discovery, and surprise. It is a conversation between myself, the materials, and the emerging work. Each artwork asks to be heard, and I respond by letting go of control, trusting instincts, and embracing the unexpected. The process is mutual — the work and I evolve together, shaping and guiding each other.
Nature, intuition, and observation continually shape my visual language, while layers, textures, and forms reveal themselves in ways I cannot predict. Through my art, I hope to offer others a personal journey — a chance to encounter something within themselves that resonates beyond what can be seen.
In art, I find both guidance and companionship. It is this dialogue — with the world, the materials, and myself — that drives me to keep creating.
